چکیده

Low back pain has for long been associated with the lumbar spine biomechanics. A three dimensional model of segments L2 to L5 of lumbar spine is generated form CT images of a healthy human male. Hounsfield units of the image slices are used to derive material properties throughout the 3D model. This model is subjected to finite element analysis to study stresses developed during naturally found loading phenomena. The stresses developed both for flexion and extension are found to be highest in the pedicle region. Also, while flexion produces more stress concentrations, extension balances the compressive body weight, thereby reducing the stress levels. Three-Dimensional Finite Element Analysis of Stress Intensity Factors in a Spherical Pressure Vessel with Functionally Graded Coating

This research pertains to the three-dimensional (3D) finite element analysis (FEA) of the stress intensity factors (SIFs) along the crack front in a spherical pressure vessel coated with functionally graded material (FGM). The vessel is subjected to internal pressure and thermal gradient. The exponential function is adopted for property of FGMs. SIFs are obtained for a wide variety of crack sha...

Investigating the Stress Distribution Applied to Edentulous Ridge from Polyamide and Cobalt-Chrome Removable-Partial-Dentures using Three-Dimensional Finite-Element-Analysis

Abstract: Objective: The objective of this study was to compare the Von-Mises-stress (VMS) distribution applied to the edentulous ridges from a Polyamide RPD (PRPD) with those from a Cobalt-Chrome RPD (CCRPD). Materials and Methods: A patient with mandibular Kennedy Class I, Mod I was selected. The patientchr(chr('39')39chr('39'))s CBCT was cut off at 1 mm sections from the axial dimension. ...

Mechanical Buckling Analysis of Composite Annular Sector Plate with Bean-Shaped Cut-Out using Three Dimensional Finite Element Method

In this paper, mechanical buckling analysis of composite annular sector plates with bean shape cut out is studied. Composite material sector plate made of Glass-Epoxy and Graphite-Epoxy with eight layers with same thickness but different fiber angles for each layer. Mechanical loading to form of uniform pressure loading in radial, environmental and biaxial directions is assumed. The method used...

Construction and validation of a three-dimensional finite element model of degenerative scoliosis

BACKGROUND With the aging of the population, degenerative scoliosis (DS) incidence rate is increasing. In recent years, increasing research on this topic has been carried out, yet biomechanical research on the subject is seldom seen and in vitro biomechanical model of DS nearly cannot be available. The objective of this study was to develop and validate a complete three-dimensional finite eleme...

Geometrically nonlinear analysis of axially functionally graded beams by using finite element method

The aim of this paper is to investigate geometrically nonlinear static analysis of axially functionally graded cantilever beam subjected to transversal non follower load. The considered problem is solved by finite element method with total Lagrangian kinematic approach. The material properties of the beam vary along the longitudinal direction according to the power law function. The finite elem...
